The Continuum Mechanics and Structures Division of the University Institute for Intelligent Systems and Numerical Applications in Engineering works on the following research lines:

– Dynamic Soil-Structure and Structure-Soil-Structure Interaction
– Dynamic response of land based and offshore wind turbines
– Impedances of shallow and deep foundations
– Soil-Water-Structure Interaction. Seismic response of dams
– Dynamic analysis of porous media
– Acoustic pollution. Noise propagation and acoustic barriers
– Boundary Element Methods and its application to dynamic problems.
– Earthquake Engineering
– Application of PINNs (physics-informed neural networks) to the solution of the problems listed above
– Structural optimization in the field of offshore wind
– Derivation of ANN-based surrogate models for continuum mechanics and structural dynamics
